Lauri Shillings is running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Indiana's 5th Congressional District because she believes in responsible government spending, modern education, and accessible healthcare. She is a life-long Hoosier with working-class roots.

She has over 20 years of leadership experience in business ownership, media, marketing, and educational organizations, bringing a wealth of expertise to this race. She learned from a very young age the value of civic service and dedication to community.

Inflation:

When the government tells you to “just tighten up your personal budget to make due” during hard times, then I challenge the government to do the same! When the government can’t balance their own budget and you get the bill - that’s called inflation. How do you budget? You stick to a budget to control spending, and only use money you earn. It is logical that government should do the same. I will advocate for cutting unnecessary spending at every opportunity if elected

Immigration:

Yes, Libertarians believe in free immigration and unrestricted free labor market, but that is not the same as leaving the door open for everyone to arrive unannounced. “Modernizing immigration” would solve this problem. There should be a clearly defined path to citizenship and immigration into our country. We are all the children of immigrants at some point. Let's make a legal and expedited pathway for those wishing to come to our great nation and contribute in a meaningful way.

Individual Choice:

Individuals may engage in activities that run counter to our personal beliefs. Outside of obvious criminal offenses such as assault, theft, or murder—it is not the role of the government in a free society to prohibit such behavior, even when the majority wants it to be prohibited. For this reason, activities such as abortion, drug use, education, religious beliefs, and personal defense are the decisions of individual choice and personal bodily autonomy.

If you are not hurting anybody and not taking their stuff, the government should stay out of it. Your life is your life. It is not the government's job to tell you how to live it.
